Popular TV and radio host Thabo “Tbo Touch” Molefe, announced on Sunday that his media company Touch HD has purchased a stake of Gauteng based community TV station Soweto TV. This announcement, which dropped on Twitter also included a promo of his new TV show, titled The Take-Off, which will air on the station soon.
In February this year, the Sunday World newspaper reported that Touch HD and Marketing, which also owns the online radio station Touch HD, was facing the risk of liquidation. At the time, the newspaper could confirm that Boomtown Events filed papers in the South Gauteng High Court in January to sequestrate the company for allegedly failing to foot their hospitality bill of almost R190000, which was subject to Touch filing notice of intention to oppose the liquidation notice, which would have been heard by March 2019.
2019 was without its fair share of drama when it came to black owned media companies facing financial woes, since the closing of Ndalo Media’s Destiny magazine. Could this be a big move for Touch HD to shed hope for other black owned media entities or is this yet another expense incurred for the growing empire?
