Ellis Park 43

On this day in 2001, 43 football fans lost their lives in a stampede at the Soweto Derby. This still remains the worst sporting accident to happen in South African history.

Kaizer Motaung has once more reiterated the importance of remembering the 43 people that died at Ellis Park Stadium on this day in 2001, calling it a ‘fateful and unforgettable date’.

May their souls rest in peace.
