23 August 2018 Worth-A-Follow: Nicolette Mashile

Born and raised in Mpumalanga’s Bushbuckridge, the 30-year-old, media personality has a passion for using her experiences to inspire and educate the masses both through her work in TV and her various social media platforms.

She spent most of her life in her hometown but needed to move after high school in pursuit of the good education she had always known she wanted so she went to study Social Studies and Law at the Rhodes University in Grahamstown. She was unfortunately not able to complete her degree so she later moved to Johannesburg to try again in a different field of study.

She obtained, not one but, four qualifications; a National Diploma in Sports Management, a BA in Human and Social Studies majoring in Communications; an Honours in organisational communication and a post graduate diploma in business admin which later enabled her to be a Masters candidate in 2018.

23 August 2018 Florence Maseebe

Florence Masebe is a South African TV personality, known locally for her role in the series Muvhango. She was born and raised in Tshakuma, Limpopo.  Florence was trained as an actress at the University of Cape Town’s drama school and has worked in television, radio and film for over 17 years.

Masebe became a household name after appearing in a number of South African soapies such asEgoli, Suburban Bliss, Soul City, Muvhango, Generations, 7de Laan and Scandal. She is also had a leading role on world’s first Tshivenda-language feature film, Elelwani.

In 2013 she won Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role at the 9th Africa Movie Academy Awards and has released a book which is a collection of poems that she wrote after her son,  Masakona died tragically after drowning.

She has been in the TV industry for over a decade and has charmed South Africans with her beautiful smile and bubbly persona. We first saw her on popular kiddy show, YOTV but she has now grown to joining shows such as Isidingo and Selimathunzi. If you watched this season of Tropical Island of Treasure, you will know she is always up for a challenge.

21 August 2018 Worth-A-Follow: Lebohang Masango

Lebohang Masango is a Master’s candidate in Social Anthropology at the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa. She is also a children’s book author, feminist, poet, freelance writer and social commentator.

Her research interests include gender, popular culture, representations and new digital media. Her Honours’ ethnography, Of Hair and Brown Girls: Beauty and Femininity in Pretoria, explores race and femininity through hairstyling practices, self-imaging, whiteness and regulations for African girls in a Tshwane primary school. Lebohang is the recipient of the “From Digital to Sexual Revolution: Youth and Mobile Phones in India and South Africa” award for 2017, granted by the National Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences (NIHSS). Her current MA research focuses on young, digitally–connected African women in Johannesburg who challenge patriarchy by subverting “sugar daddy” tropes to curate their experiences of love, intimacy and sex.

21 August 2018 DJ Sliqe & DJ Speedsta

Lutendo Kungoan also known as DJ Sliqe is a hip hop producer/DJ who started his journey while he was still in grade 10. The Gauteng born star would DJ at school events as well as social events.

His first breakthrough came from being a resident DJ at the hottest clubs on 7th avenue in Melville, which opened up the door to bigger platforms and he soon became a national DJ playing all over South Africa.

DjSliqemade history on the 4thof June 2016 when he became the FIRST hip-hop DJ to win the SAMA’s. He rose above the rest for the ‘best remix category’ with his hit track “Do Like I Do”, which featured L-Tido, RikyRick, Kwesta, Nadia Nakai, Reason and the late hip hop heavy weight Flabba.

Born Lesego Nkaiseng known as “Speedy” where the stage name “Dj Speedsta” came from. A 20 year old hip hop dj from the Vaal Triangle who matriculated in 2010 and moved to Johannesburg to further his dj career as well as his studies in 2011.

Djing since 2008, and has done remarkable things in his DJ career, having played alongside the biggest names in the South African DJ industry, has also played all around South Africa at some of the biggest events. He is also a winner of the “So you think you can DJ” competition on DJ Euphonik’s “My House” show on 5fm, after winning 7 consecutive weeks of the competition in 2010.

Our MCM is one of the coolest rappers in Mzansi. From a mouth full of grills and a closet full of shoes, he is one to be reckoned with on and off the stage.

Johannesburg born musician Micheal Chirwa is a rapper turned entertainer and businessman. Where fashion and hard work meet in the form of music, Stilo still is the man to turn to because as much as he knows music, he knows fashion as well. As you guys may know, he goes by more than one name, Stilo Magolide AKA Choc/Seruno/HorseRide/Mr 2190 is a guy setting his own trends and is ready to take the world by storm.
